29. Re-Purposed Bottle Tree

It was quite a sacrifice: I had to drink a lot of beer in the month before Christmas. Mostly green-bottled beer.

I made two tree-shaped forms with 1/4″ acrylic (plexiglass) shelves, cut just the right size to hold multiples of the bottles. (There’s a special glue which “melts” the plexiglass to make the structure very strong.)

I organized the bottles on the shelves so the brown would look like trunk, the green like……, and the clear bottles like lights or snow on the tree. Then I inserted a white string light into each bottle mouth. In the interim, we have recycled the bottles, moved twice, and got the acrylic trees out of storage. Even though I (and, I have to share the credit, my helpers) would be pleased to drink 106 more bottles of beer, the acrylic shelves could hold just about anything in a tree shape.

I’ll put my creative cap on.

  1. I’ve always liked the beer bottle tree. Call it nostalgia for the PG place, but I think it’s incredibly creative, and very visually appealing. That and the creator gets/has to drink all the beer. I call that a sense of accomplishment.

    • Agreed. I move we fly at it over Christmas and prove the poet wrong: it’s not only god who can make a tree. If we let Kitty drink the beer then we could say that dog can make a tree.

  2. I’ve brought this idea up a couple of times in the last few weeks. I vote for a revival of the beer tree! I will help!

  3. It’s fantastic. I haven’t seen one like this-my Hubs wold love to drink all that beer to make me one. Maybe someday!

  4. OMG, how creative is that and what a fun time drinking to get the bottles. Love it! Thanks for linking up to the party at the Cabin this week:)
